Devotion for Caring

“Oh, the world’s a curious compound, with its honey and its gall,
With its cares and bitter crosses, but a good world after all.
An’ a good God must have made it . . . leastways, that is what I say,
When a hand is on my shoulder in a friendly sort o’way.”
~ James Whitcomb Riley ~

As I look back over my life, it’s a real joy to see the countless ways that God has tenderly cared for my family and me. When I was young, I wasn’t really aware that God was using my parents to provide all of my needs. I just knew that my parents fed me, made sure I had clothing, played with me and loved me. They also made sure that I knew God existed and that he loved me too. As I grew older, I began to make choices of my own, some not so good for me, but nevertheless, I made them. Looking back at some of my foolishness, I can see clearly that God was watching over me, protecting me and guiding me, even when I was doing things I shouldn’t be doing.

One of the ways God has of protecting and caring for his children, is through his angels. I have personally experienced this protection and I praise God for the angels that attend me. Psalms 91:11 says; “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”  Hebrews 1:14 also says; “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” God cares so deeply about his children, that he has provided angels to keep watch over us, from the time we are born. Just as God has tenderly cared for me all the days of my life, I believe that I should also have that same level of care for the precious people he has placed in my life. Gods love is defined as agape` love, unconditional love. This scripture says that “God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 5:5)  So then, the Holy Spirit helps me to care for and to love others with that same, unconditional love.

I turned my life over to Jesus almost 40 years ago. I have learned that wherever I go, whatever I do; God is there. He’s giving me his wisdom, his love, his guidance and an abundance of blessings. What a precious realization . . . God tenderly cares for me and watches over me, providing all my needs. That same care is available for you, too. There is nothing we can do that will ever separate us from his love and care. God has promised that he would never leave us, nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)  Learn to depend on God, because he is completely dependable and cares for you. Seek him, trust him, lean on him, for he is a mighty God and there is none above him!

Relating Scriptures:

He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
