A Prayer for My Son the Marine

Linda L. Throgmorton
August 22, 2000

We breathe a sigh of relief
Each time we hear your voice
A whispered prayer of thanksgiving
We lift praises and rejoice

The tears of joy we shed
As we think of you with pride
We humbly ask the Lord
If your footsteps He will guide.

A thousand may fall beside you
Or ten thousand at your feet
But our God is able to keep you
In His arms until we meet.

Be strong and of good courage
Fear not, nor be afraid
The Lord you God goes with you
No need to be dismayed.

Our lives are joined together
Though miles between us part
The love that binds forever
Grows stronger in each heart.

With tears we said goodbye
Our tears still fall today
But as the Lord has promised
He shall wipe each one away.

May God bless you every moment
And keep you safe from harm
As we hold you in our hearts
`Til He brings you safely home.
