Adoration: The act of adoring, as in worship. A feeling of profound admiration and devotion. Adore; to render divine honors to; worship as divine. To love or honor with intense devotion.

Devotion for Adoration

   We say things like, “Don’t you just adore him?” or “I love babies, they’re so adorable!” and “This cake is simply divine.” We may think that we adore someone or something, but in the light of the definition for adoration, maybe adore is the wrong word for what we are feeling The English language has become very loose in its usage. People and things are not divine and we really should not be worshiping anyone or anything other than our God.

   Take a moment and close your eyes . . . let’s think upon the Lord. Think about nature’s beauty and its perfect balance. Can you hear the birds singing or do you feel a gentle breeze on your cheek? Now, think about God’s love and the countless ways he has cared for you in previous days and years. How has he comforted you or given you wisdom about a specific need? Now, think about the gift of his son Jesus and the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. Where would you be this very moment, if not for the love, mercy and guidance of God? I find it impossible to think about these things without an overwhelming love flowing from my heart and praises pouring from my lips. God is worthy of our praise and adoration!

   Read Malachi 3:16-18 again. What an awesome thing to grasp….God listens to people who talk about or even think about him! Not only does he listen, but he also has a book in which he writes our names. Can one even grasp the kind of love that God has for us, his children? It is the kind of love that doesn’t care where we come from, what race we are, whether we are male or female, an adult or a child. He doesn’t grade our sins, our bad behavior, our selfish attitudes; he just loves us unconditionally. No matter where we go, or what we do, God is waiting with open arms…can you feel his arms wrapped around you? God is certainly worthy of our adoration.

Philippians 4:8 says: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.” Surely, God is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and above all, praiseworthy! Let us bow before our God in humble adoration. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Relating Scriptures:

Psalms 19: 1  The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Exodus 20:1-5  And God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God…”

I Chronicles 16:2-29  Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

Psalms 95:6-7  Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

I Chronicles 29:11-13  Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

Psalms 99:5  Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy.

John 4:23-24  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.

Romans 1:21  For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Psalms 8:1-3  O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise….When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?

I Timothy 1:17  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen

Malachi 3:16-18  Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. “They will be mine,” says the Lord Almighty, “in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”
